The two closest airports are in Calvi (15 to 30 minutes drive to most properties) and Bastia (just over 1 hour drive from Balagne).

There are direct charter flights to Calvi (from Gatwick, Stansted, Bristol, East Midlands, Manchester and Edinburgh) and Bastia (from Gatwick, Birmingham and Newcastle) departing on Sunday mornings from approx. April to October (depending on the route).

You can also benefit from a new British Airways route from Gatwick to Bastia which runs mostly on Sundays from April to October.

Alternatively it might pay to look for a cheap low cost airlines flight to Nice or Marseille and a connecting flight (to be booked with Air France) to Calvi or Bastia. There are daily flights from Nice and Marseille to Calvi and Bastia with several discount schemes (family, over 60, under 25 etc.). This way you can get to Corsica all year round and have the flexibility of traveling any day of the week.

Corsica island retreat in the heart of the Mediterranean is situated 100 miles south of the French Riviera, north of Sardinia and 50 miles from Italy's western shores. Its size is about the same as Crete (183Km from north to south and 85Km side at its broadest point). It is French owned since 1769 with a population of around 260,000 inhabitants.

The first language is French although Corsican is spoken by young as well as old but not often on a day-to-day basis.
From April to October temperatures during the day remain above 20°C (64°F) although in the height of the summer temperatures are around 30°C (88°F).

Corsica distinguishes itself from the other Mediterranean islands by having a huge variety of sceneries and landscapes on the coastal front as well as in the mountainous heart of the island.

Corsica offers breathtaking views, translucent water, soft and white sand beaches and snow encrusted mountains all year round. its rugged natural environment serves as a rampart against successive foreign invasions. The island is dotted with Genoese towers of old, keeping watch in case of attacks by invaders from other lands.

The Balagne region used to be one of the most fertile regions of Corsica, often called “the Garden of Corsica”. The beautiful sea-facing hillsides of Balagne are cloaked with olive trees.

A network of footpaths including long distance hikes (GR20 and Tra Mare d Monti) originates in Balagne. A wide variety of water sports is available in the two main towns of Balagne, Calvi and Ile-Rousse. Surrounding beaches and coves are wild and un spoilt.

The coastal villages of Balagne such as Lumio and Algajola are charming and boast wonderful sea views. The fortress villages of inland Balagne are among the most picturesque on the island: Sant'Antonino, Pigna, Corbara, Monticello, Calenzana, Cassano, Montemaggiore..etc.

The Balagne region is also known for its cultural and musical events (Jazz Festival in Calvi, Film Festival in Lama, theater in Pigna..etc.)

Please note that more information on local events will be provided on your arrival.
